Williams (Éimear)

Williams (Éimear): Aislinge Meic Con Glinne, apples, and Byrhtferth’s Enchiridion.
In CMCS 48 (Winter 2004), pp. 45–73.
Discusses the numerical correspondences used in the ‘apple scene’ of the Irish narrative, and examines their parallels with those mentioned in the fourth book of the Anglo-Saxon Handbook. Appendixes contain (1) the two versions of the Irish text (RIA MS 23 P 16 and TCD MS H 3. 18), with English translation, and (2) the relevant passages of Byrhtferth (Latin text with English translation).
Williams (Éimear): Bealtaine and Imbolg (oimelc) in Cormac’s Glossary.
In StC 39 (2005), pp. 123–143.
Examines the definitions of bel, belltaine and oimelc in Cormac’s Glossary and criticises the received assumptions concerning the festivals of Beltaine and Imbolg which derive from a wrong interpretation of these particular glosses.
