Discusses the term briugu and the process of promotion from the freemen grades to the noble grades according to early Irish law, and also argues, based on an analysis of their property qualifications and their moral character, that the briugu of Uraicecht becc and the mruigḟer of Críth gablach (complemented by the fer fothlai) are variant designations of the
